Important Yorkie Equipment & Accessories

Important Yorkie Equipment & Accessories

Here is a list of some basic equipment you should have if you're getting a new yorkie puppy:

  • Dog Bed: Your yorkie will need a soft, warm place to sleep. A good choice for your yorkie's bed is a covered bed made of a soft material like foam. Make sure that it will be able to keep your yorkie warm at night. Most yorkie beds have a removable cover that is easy to clean in the washing machine.
  • Leash & Collar: These are absolutely necessary for when your yorkie goes for walks outside. Since yorkies are so small, make sure that the leash is lightweight and that the collar will be small enough so your yorkie can't slip out.
  • Food & Water Dishes: Stainless steel dishes work great for feeding your yorkie. Make sure they have a rubber ring on the bottom or have a rack so your yorkie can't tip them over. Stainless steel dishes are also good because they can be washed in boiling hot water to kill any bacteria that may be in them.
  • Food: Make sure you ask the person you're getting your yorkie from what kind of food they are currently feeding the yorkie. Your yorkie could get sick if you change their food abruptly.
  • Toys: Yorkies love to play! The best toys for yorkies are small balls and rings made of solid rubber or latex. Try to avoid plastic toys that could splinter and hurt your yorkie or even worse, choke them.
  • Combs & Brushes: A yorkie needs to be brushed often to keep its coat looking great.

For our Yorkies we buy baby toys at yard sales that don't have any buttons or small objects to choke them, or liquids inside of teethers...rubber toys for babies are great for Yorkies too..just clean them real good. Cloth teething toys can be washed in washing machine and put in dryer to re-clean them too. Also we recommend using harnesses for Yorkies..keeps them from getting choked and gives them a little fashion too...I enjoyed your blog and put it on my follow list so others will come and visit..my site is watersideyorkies.blogspot.com and we are proud owners of 4 Yorkies, all related, and have 2 more in the family, including the great-grand-dog who is almost 13 years old. I appreciate owners who blog and let the world know how wonderful Yorkshire Terriers really are. Keep up the great blog and I look forward to reading more.
